Partial Knee Replacement

A partial knee replacement procedure, also known as a unicompartmental surgery, replaces only part of the joint, offering a nice alternative to a total replacement.

Looking for alternatives to full on knee replacement is something that can be worth your time, so that you can choose a route that might be a bit easier to recover from, and that will still yield great results.  That’s why partial knee replacement can be the way to go, so that you can be sure that you’re going to be able to totally work through an injury or even a disease that’s causing some part of your knee to give out or experience pain.  This is a surgery that only targets a problem area, so that you can be sure that you’re able to get only the part of the knee that needs to be replaced, replaced.  Of course, there are several things to think about beforehand, so that you can really determine if partial knee replacement is for you.

What you’re going to find with this type of surgery opposed to many other types of surgery like this, is that it basically entails only replacing a small part of the knee.  This is more typically for injuries sustained to the area, as well as diseases that can degenerate a large portion of the knee.  What this sort of surgery is going to be able to do for you, is literally replace a portion of the knee, instead of the entire knee.  That way, through partial knee replacement you only have the part of your knee that you need fixed, fixed, so that you can ensure it’s that much easier to recover.

However, because of the nature of partial knee replacement, it’s also much less successful than total knee replacement.  While technology has gotten to the point where total replacement can be done with a fair amount of confidence in total recovery.  You’re going to find that partial knee replacement is still in it’s infancy as a medical concept, so all the kinks as it were, are really not worked out totally.  That means you’re putting your knee at risk, and the pain that you’re seeking to avoid or correct could actually be made worse, or just not resolved at all.

That’s why sometimes it’s a good idea to really explore your options and find an alternative to partial knee replacement before just going with that.  There are all sorts of anti-inflammatory treatments, as well as other types of pain killers and even knee braces that can allow you to avoid all sorts of knee injuries and pain.  These sometimes can be a total fix for a problem that you’re suffering from, and it’s important that you explore your options before really settling on any one decision.

Of course, you also want to meet with a doctor before really figuring out if partial knee replacement is right for you.  That way, you can really go through your options and figure out what sort of surgical option is your best, or you can ensure that you’re able to find  a separate alternative as well to get the job done.  It’s really important that you find some way to ensure that you can avoid this pain, that’s convenient with your lifestyle, as well as likely to work.
